A tiny mockingbird taken to the California Wildlife Center (CWC) near Los Angeles for help received a double dose of kindness: along with her condition being healed, she also received custom shoes to help her out.
The CWC reported the bird had an ailment known as “knuckling feet” that makes standing up difficult due to her toes curling up under her feet.
Knuckling feet is evidently fairly ordinary, and the center immediately knew how to care for the bird.
The solution? Fantastically cute snowshoes.
Made from tape and cardboard, the veterinary staff developed these personalized shoes that force her toes back into proper alignment.
As a veterinarian at the CWC explained to The Dodo, “We needed to train her feet back to how they should be.” After a couple of weeks, the mockingbird’s feet should be good as new.
The snowshoes are thus far correcting her feet wonderfully.
The CWC reported on their website, “The treatment was successful. The bird is now snowshoe-free and on the road to full recovery!”
